Rosmaninho has a story to tell…

There is a region in Trás-os-Montes, in the north-east of Portugal, blessed by nature, surrounded by mountains, where hills and small valleys are practically covered in olive trees. The climate of cold winters and hot summers, the perfect altitude, an average of 400 metres and the rich soil define the authentic terroir of this PDO region. Our olive growers can therefore make the most of these natural conditions, which are fundamental in producing a high-quality olive. This piece of land has been maintained and respected by the olive growers, preserving the legacy handed down by their ancestors, conserving the same traditional olive grove and applying practically the same sustainable farming processes. Only in this way can they take advantage of these exceptional raw materials. Harvested at the right time and brought quickly to the mill, the olives are immediately processed in cold extraction and using only first extraction to minimise the impact of the whole process. The result is a PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil full of flavours, delicate aromas and with a unique palate and sensory characteristics, such as the high level of polyphenols.

A history dating back over 5 centuries…
The history of Rosmaninho began long before the Valpaços cooperative came into being. The oldest records indicate that olive trees were first planted on these lands in the early 16th century.

Our ancestors made the right choice. The evidence that olive trees thrive in this soil is shown through the recognition of Rosmaninho's quality in Portugal and across the world. A distinction we are proud of and which continues the tradition of excellence dating back to the early 20th century – in 1903 the olive oil from our region was already winning awards at Real Tapada da Ajuda...

We want to continue and improve on this history to ensure that our children and grandchildren can offer the next generations a genuine olive oil from Trás-os-Montes. We are working for the future.

Terra Quente / Terra Fria

Our home is the north-east of Portugal. The highlands of Trás-os-Montes are home to the olive groves that are the soul of Rosmaninho. Rooted in the hills and valleys of “Terra Quente”, the trees from which we harvest our olives follow the rhythm of cold winters and hot summers that characterise this region's microclimate. The favourable average altitude (400m) and the wealth of the soils complete the perfect conditions for an extraordinary terroir.

The olives we are so proud of are ripening in the middle of vineyards and almond trees. And the result of all this is not only one of the best and healthiest olive oils you will ever try, but also one of the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal. A landscape that extends beyond the limits of our olive groves, through the high mountains of "Terra Fria."

Small olive growers make a great olive oil

Most of the olive growers responsible for Rosmaninho olive oil are small producers. They tend their olive trees with commitment and passion so that every year they can deliver the fruit of hard work that is undertaken with the greatest of care.

We are sustainable

The Olive Growers Cooperative of Valpaços has grown thanks to the sustainability we value at every level.

Because olive growing is the main source of income for the local community, management that guarantees success is absolutely essential. The reward for each year's work must be an incentive for the following harvest and for the determination of our producers. That is why being financially sustainable is not only a necessity, it is a principle.

In the same way, respect for the ecosystem is not an obligation, but is a value we cannot live without. We are proud to maintain and ensure the growth of a legacy dating back over 5 centuries, preserving the traditional olive grove and letting nature take care of our trees. We maintain dryland farming methods and renounce intensive olive tree farming. We are and shall continue to be eco-sustainable.

PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil

ROSMANINHO olive oil has the best classification - it is a PDO EXTRA virgin olive oil. EXTRA Virgin because it is pure olive juice and has acidity of less than 0.8%. PDO because it is produced in a designated area in Portugal with a recognized quality for olive oil production.

Traditional Olive Grove

We are proud to preserve our ancestral heritage.
In Valpaços we maintain the olive grove handed down to us by our grandparents' grandparents. Because we respect them, because we want to maintain tradition and because we care about the quality of our olive oil.

Polyphenols

Polyphenols are one of the most important characteristics olive oils has for human health. They are antioxidants that neutralise free radicals and help to combat degenerative diseases, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and have anti-inflammatory effects.

ROSMANINHO is rich in polyphenols because it is produced from traditional olives that grow in a special microclimate, because of the varieties of olive from which it is made and because it is harvested, not when we determine, but when the trees say so and the fruit is at optimal ripeness.
